Design and Education
We maintain a strong focus on educational architecture, viewing it as a vital program for expressing the civic dimension of design. Rooted in professional practice in Spain and academic inquiry, our work explores how design intersects with learning environments—drawing from historical precedents internationally, as well as modern pedagogical frameworks for contemporary schools.
African Urban School
The New Center for Enko Education in Bamako, Mali, was designed for an international competition by Archstorming. The building is organized around a central circular void that cuts vertically through all levels as the school’s open courtyard. The ground floor accommodates nursery and primary spaces, while the second floor consolidates soft-skills programs with continuous visual connections to adjacent levels. Secondary classrooms and workshops occupy the third floor, leading to an active roof terrace equipped with a canteen, sports court, outdoor showers, and agricultural learning spaces centered around the central oculus. A standard concrete frame system is paired with semi-open perforated brick masonry and warm rammed-earth walls. Perforated screen planes and passive cross-ventilation maintain indoor comfort and daylighting while reducing energy demand. 2022.
