Concept Design & Cost Estimate
The Educational Trail (Percurso Educativo) is a master plan proposal developed as part of the Ação Projetual: Museu Nacional—an emergency initiative led by Marina Correia with students of FAUUFRJ following the catastrophic 2018 fire at the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro. Designed to immediately reconnect the institution with the public and keep its educational mission active, the project transforms the university’s historic Botanical Garden (Horto Botânico) in Quinta da Boa Vista into an open-air museum. The proposal maps and organizes the site into six key activity hubs (Horto Leste, Horto Central Sul, Horto Central Norte, Baixo Horto, Horto Norte, and Horto Oeste). By strategically restoring underutilized existing structures and integrating subtle outdoor interventions without introducing new footprints on the heritage-listed land, the trail establishes school group reception areas, small exhibit spaces, interactive botanical walking paths, and improved visitor routes. Ultimately, the project offers a low-impact, environmentally sensitive design framework that highlights the site’s living botanical collection and rich institutional memory.
